The seventh edition of STESSA has been organized by the University of Chile (Department of Civil Engineering), in cooperation with the University of Naples “Federico II” (Department of Structural Engineering).

The results of recent research from all over the world in the field of steel structures in seismic areas are represented by 152 papers from experts from 23 countries. The papers included in the proceedings are subdivided into chapters with titles corresponding to the names of the Working sessions of the STESSA’12 Conference. The papers are categorized into the following areas:

1. Performance-Based Design: engineering descriptions of performance levels; conceptual design for multiple performance objectives; reliability-based design procedures; methods for analytical prediction of performance.
2. Seismic, Wind and Exceptional Loads: seismic load; wind load; fire; fire after an earthquake;
explosions; impact.

And many more…

Bridge Hydraulics by Les Hamill

Book Name:   Bridge Hydraulics

Bridge Hydraulics
Bridge Hydraulics by Les Hamill

Types of book:  Civil Engineering

Edition:  No Edition

Writer:   Les Hamill

Publication:   E & FN SPON

Page:  347

Chapters:  8

File type:  pdf

File weight:  15.3 mb

About the book:   This is intended as a useful handbook (Bridge Hydraulics by Les Hamill) on the subject of bridge hydraulics. It includes references to articles published in 1997, just prior to its completion, so compared with similar books it is relatively up to date. It explores how to undertake the hydraulic analysis or design of a bridge, either single or multispan, with either rectangular or arched waterways. It describes how to calculate the afflux (backwater), how to improve the hydraulic performance of a bridge, and how to evaluate and combat scour.

Some engineers may question why a book on bridge hydraulics is needed when it is possible to find computer software that will do all the analysis and design for you. Such people frequently believe, because computers are capable of giving answers to 20 decimal places, that everything that comes out of them is correct and accurate. This is not true. Ignoring the fact that the input data may be inaccurate, there may be mistakes in the computer program. A sobering thought is that someone once said that if a piece of software is worth using then it must have an error in it somewhere!

Engineering Mechanics Statics by J.L. Meriam & L.G. Kraige

Engineering Mechanics Statics
Engineering Mechanics Statics by J.L. Meriam & L.G. Kraige

Types of book:  Civil Engineering

Edition:  Seventh Edition

Writer:  J.L. Meriam & L.G. Kraige

Publication:   Wiley

Page:  548

Chapters:  7 with solution

File type:  pdf

File weight:  30.3 mb

About the book:   Engineering mechanics is both a foundation and a framework for most of the branches of engineering. Many of the topics in such areas as civil, mechanical, aerospace, and agricultural engineering, and of course engineering mechanics itself, are based upon the subjects of statics and dynamics. Even in a discipline such as electrical engineering, practitioners, in the course of considering the electrical components of a robotic device or a manufacturing process, may find themselves first having to deal with the mechanics involved. Thus, the engineering mechanics sequence is critical to the engineering curriculum. Not only is this sequence needed in itself, but courses in engineering mechanics also serve to solidify the student’s understanding of other important subjects, including applied mathematics, physics, and graphics. In addition, these courses serve as excellent settings in which to strengthen problem-solving abilities.

Transportation Infrastructure Engineering by Lester, Nicholas and Adel

Book Name:   Transportation Infrastructure Engineering

Transportation Infrastructure Engineering
Transportation Infrastructure Engineering by Lester, Nicholas and Adel

Types of book:  Civil Engineering

Edition:  SI Edition

Writer:   Lester A. Hoel, Nicholas J. Garber & Adel W. Sadek

Publication:   Cengage Learning

Page:  690

Chapters:  9

File type:  pdf

File weight:  11.7mb

About the book:   This book (Transportation Infrastructure Engineering by Lester, Nicholas and Adel) is intended to serve as a resource for courses in transportation engineering that emphasize transportation in an overall systems perspective. It can serve as a textbook for an introductory course or for upper-level undergraduate and first-year graduate courses.

This book(
Transportation Infrastructure Engineering) differs from the widely used textbook, Traffic and Highway Engineering, which supports courses that emphasize elements of highway and traffic practice including areas such as planning, operations, design, materials and maintenance, and contains sufficient detail to provide engineering students with a solid background for engineering practice and preparation for engineering professional registration. Other textbooks have been written with a similar “single mode” perspective on topics such as airports, railroads, mass transit, and highways.

Transportation Infrastructure Engineering: A Multimodal Integration serves a different purpose and is intended for a broader audience. Its objective is to provide an overview of transportation from a multimodal viewpoint rather than emphasizing a particular mode in great detail.
